Silk Naturals swatches: taupe city!

I think I can credit Catie for first introducing me to Silk Naturals. It took a while for me to actually commit to buying anything from the brand, but then I had an epiphany with eyeshadows. Cool and neutral colors tend to work better on me than warm ones. That made me want to try a variety of shades, and at $4 a shadow, Silk Naturals was a brand I could afford a bunch of colors from.

With that in mind, I scoured their extensive collection to find some new colors to diversify my collection. Taupe is probably my favorite eye color ever, so I put "taupe" in the search box and bought almost every single color. I also threw in some other neutrals that caught my eye, and a few of the dupes from the Naked Palette collection.

The colors I got are: Sierra, Loaded, Terra, Eu-Taupe-ia, Tailfeather, Aztec, Bareback, Graceful, Earth, Glory, Lurid, Taupetastic, Idolize, Rizzo, Nudge Nudge and Mink. Phew. Went a little nuts, didn't I? Anyways, swatches:

Several of these colors are dupes for mainstream brands. Loaded is a dupe for Urban Decay Toasted, Terra is Bobbi Brown Hotstone, Bareback is Urban Decay Naked, Aztec is Bobbi Brown Mica, Lurid is MAC Moth Brown, Idolize is MAC Idol Eyes and Mink is MAC Satin Taupe.

Overall, I have absolutely loved these shadows. Most have a gorgeous shine, are pigmented, smooth, and have a lot of depth and dimension. I look forward to putting them on everyday, and I have yet to find a bad combination. I like all of them, but my favorite is probably is the Eu-Taupe-ia, a matte color that looks so sophisticated and smokey. It is very versatile and wearable day or night. I also really love Sierra, Tailfeather, Idolize and Mink. Bareback is the best transition color for the crease I have found yet. I doesn't look super exciting, but it really takes your look to another level when you blend out a darker color with it.

I also have to comment on this company's excellent customer service. They ship incredibly fast, and when I placed my order, I realized that it would arrive before I was back in town from vacation. I also forgot to add my free shadows, so I sent a message to the company. I got a quick response saying they would delay the shipping, and add my shadows. It was totally hassel free.

This is definitely not the last you will be seeing from Silk Naturals. I have been building a wishlist, and it's only a matter of time before I place another order!

IngredientsMica, Titanium Dioxide, Magnesium Myrsistate, Magnesium Stearate, Boron Nitride, Silica.  May contain: iron oxides, ultramarines, chromium oxide green, tin oxide, ferric ferrocyanide, carmine. Individual color additives are listed in each product description for additives you want to avoid.
*FYI: Some colors contain ferric ferrocyanide, which I recommend avoiding. Some of their blushes contain FD&C dyes, which I also do not recommend. None of the colors shown here contain either.

Price: $4 at silknaturals.com. For every $30 spent, you get an additional eyeshadow for free. Each order over $10 also comes with an eyeshadow as a gift. And you get points for money spent, which you can eventually redeem for more products! Deals, anyone?

    1. Their website is dangerous, Hayley from the The Flaxen Owl was on it the other day and ended up ordering a whole load of stuff!

  2. I love these colors. 'Aztec' and 'Rizzo' are two that catch my eye right away. I'll have to check out the site for sure =)

  3. oh my, that's a LOT of eyeshadows. I've only bought mostly blushes from Silk Naturals but haven't tried any of their eye shadows, yet. Tailfeather is looking nice, though. Might get that on my next haul. And you're right, their site is like a trap, lol. Once you see one item you like, you'll just keep clicking away and end up buying more items that you planned for.

    1. Let me know what you get next time you order from them!

Tailfeather is one of my favorites, I was just wearing it yesterday. It looks really nice with Bareback and Sierra.

  5. I'm so glad I found your blog! I've been makeup obsessed for years and lately seem to be allergic to EVERYTHING. i found you on the silk naturals facebook page. i've been using silk naturals and erth minerals for a few months and they are the only things that i don't seem to have many issues with lately. will definitely be checking your blog for recommendations that aren't full of allergens!

    1. Hi Brittany, I'm so glad you found me! I bet you are sensitive to the chemicals in conventional cosmetics. I focus entirely on safe, non-toxic products here, so hopefully you can get some ideas. Also, let me know how you like Erth Minerals, that's a brand I've been wanting to check out.

    2. the main reason i tried erth is because they use so few ingredients. i'm on my second mascara from them. it's expensive to me ( i'm used to free gwp clinique mascara!) but so far so good (fingers crossed!). i also have several of their eyeshadows and recently purchased their foundation kit with 3 foundations, a mineral veil, and a bronzer. the bronzer is way too dark but i haven't used the products enough to decide what i think yet. their shadows are twice as expensive as silk naturals so i don't have as many of them. the colors are definitely more subtle. i am still on the hunt for a decent eyeshadow primer :\

    3. Thanks for the info!

I am currently using the Silk Naturals "Stick em" primer, which makes them last fairly long but is a little bit harder to blend the shadows with.

I also heard the HydraPrime from Priia works really well, and I just ordered it. I will test it out and do a review on it!

    4. the stick em is what i am using right now :) i appreciate that it doesn't irritate but it doesn't last all day on my lids, which can be a little oily. i just ordered the silk naturals clear eyeliner to try that as a primer, although i am also trying to use their regular eyeliner over it. it hasn't show up too well over the stickem so we'll see.
just went out to dinner for vday wearing stickem, loaded, and the erth minerals mascara with no problems! (toasted was my favorite shade in my unusable naked palette) i have the erth face products on and i think the mineral veil might be making me itch a tad :(
looking forward to your review on the priia primer, have not heard of that company yet, will have to go look them up and explore :) i was considering the one from concrete minerals yesterday but the first ingredient i looked up was a 3 so i figured i'd try the sn liner first.

    5. Let me know how the clear eyeliner works, I was considering that one too!

I looked up the ingredients for the Concrete Minerals one, and they weren't particularly clean or natural, so hopefully you can find something else that works!

    6. Today was lame. Yesterday I reacted to the Erth foundation again, but my silk naturals eyeshadow, liner, and erth mascara were okay. Today I put the same stuff on my eyes and they both burned until I took it off! I am using ecotools, elf, and body shop brushes that are all animal hair free and washed all brushes with dr. Bronner's plain soap last weekend. Not sure how much more pure I can get! Sigh :\

    7. That sucks, I'm sorry!

One brand that uses super, super pure ingredients is Rejuva Minerals. I haven't personally tried them, but I want to. Maybe it's worth checking out?

  8. I came over via The Flaxen Owl's blog. It's awesome that Silk Naturals will dupe colors from the more popular mainstream brands, the color match of the dupes are pretty dead on. Thanks for sharing.

  9. These colors look amazing! Your right alot of them look like dupes for the other commercial brands and now I am so excited to try them. I found your blog via The Flaxen Owl and I have to say that I am happy that I have. I am just now starting in natural beauty blogging as well as with natural beauty products and makeup and your site happens to be a godsend in the makeup department. Thanks!
