Everyday Minerals Carnauba Concealer

Recently, I decided to try out Everyday Minerals' foundation. Since I was already making an order, I threw their new-ish Carnauba Concealer in my cart as well. I had high expectations for it, because I loved the idea of the added wax, and expected it to make it a tad creamy. In the past, I have been super impressed with the incredible coverage of bareMinerals' powdered concealers, and figured that Everyday Minerals might make a comparable product. Unfortunately, I didn't think there was anything special about this concealer.

I have two main issues with this product. One is that it just doesn't seem to give any more coverage than the foundation that Everyday Minerals makes. If that's the case, why even bother buying a separate concealer? I feel a bit duped. I was hoping this would have some extra pigmentation to really cover up spots, and instead it had the same medium coverage. It just doesn't have enough or pigmentation or ability to stick to cover a pimple well. I thought the Carnauba Wax would make it have a creamier consistency, but I really couldn't detect any discernible difference in texture.

The other issue I have is the color range. There are two flesh toned colors, "Light" and "Medium" which are supposed to be universal. I found this to be too dark and peachy for my skin. If worn under foundation, as is recommended, this is less of a problem. But I don't like wearing concealer under my foundation, because I buff it in, which spreads out any concealer underneath. I'd prefer to put concealer on top, but this clashes with my skin tone too much to do that. It is also too dark to use under my eyes. Not to mention, I find it a bit far fetched that these are "universal". I have a very hard time imagining that those that have porcelain or dark skin tones would be able to use either of these colors.

I wanted to love this concealer, but unfortunately I just don't think it performs very well. I noticed some of the ladies on Makeup Alley also had the same feelings as me. And for almost  $8, it's not a great value either. I feel like these concealers were made as kind of an afterthought to their foundations. I do really like Everyday Minerals Semi-Matte Base (review coming soon), so don't totally write EM off! However, I definitely recommend skipping over the unimpressive Carnauba Concealers.

Ingredients: Mica (CI 77019) Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax. May Contain: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Ultramarines (CI 77007).

  1. I switched to EM semi matte foundation and I love it. I no longer use concealer as I feel the foundation does a good job on its own :)

    1. Yes, I did do a heavy swatch! It looks promising swatched, it just doesn't translate to good coverage on your face!

  4. I haven't tried their carnauba concealer, but I do use their multi-tasking concealer which works very well for me and does add the extra coverage I need as well as, is light enough for under my eyes.(I have awful dark circles.)
Anyways, I also love the semi-matte base. :) Great honest posts here. I appreciate them.
Does anyone know anything about their IT base? (I was curious as to what is supposed to be so special about it.) Right now I guess I am just sticking with what works. ;)

    1. Glad you found my review helpful :)

Not sure about the IT Base, but it does have some reviews. I think it is totally matte but supposed to have a little less coverage than their matte base. Maybe good for someone with oily skin who doesn't need a lot of coverage.

If this shade happened to fit you it wouldn't be bad, but for a couple bucks more, you mind as well get a much larger foundation that actually gives the same amount of coverage!
