Way too many of the body washes available, even in natural retailers, are made with some pretty undesirable ingredients. Scan a typical ingredients list and you will find synthetic detergents like SLS, preservatives such as phenoxyethanol, japanese honeysuckle, or even parabens.
On the flip side, few products can match the purity and versatility of castile soap. But most of them come in a liquidy thin form, not exactly the right texture for a body wash. That's alright, but sometimes it's nice to have products that are similar to what we used to use when we were blissfully unaware of hazards in our products. Not to mention, I have a habit of spilling castile soaps...
Enter Fable Naturals Lemon and Litsea Body Wash ($11.99 CAD for 8 oz), a castile soap that has the texture of a shower gel. Genius, right? It's basically the best of both worlds, super clean, natural ingredients, and a more viscous consistency that is easily applied to loofas and other scrubby apparatuses. It's not as frothy or foaming as a mainstream body wash, but I take no issue with that. I think we have been hardwired to think that products need to foam up like crazy to make you clean, but I just haven't found that to be the case. Even after a humid day or a sweaty workout, this stuff makes you clean as a whistle.
This scent is super tart, bright and fresh. Litsea Cubeba, in case you're wondering, is a type of citrus found in Asia that also smells very lemony. This body wash also features fair trade certified Palestinian olive oil, and most of the ingredients are organic. Overall it's a great value and a great cause to support for less than twelve bucks.
